Sometimes the Stars

Sometimes the Stars from The Audreys on Vimeo.

Hey! It's been a while.
I've had a bunch of things to post up here but no time to do so.

I had an opportunity late last year to work with some stupidly talented friends in Ari Gibson and Jason Pamment on a music video for the local Adelaide band The Audreys.

I was asked to come in and take the bulk of the shot compositing (After Effects) alongside Jase, and some 3D visualization for the almost 5 minute clip. It's not often I work on traditional animation. It's something I am always in awe of, not to mention the people who dedicate themselves to its craft!

The main thing I learnt on this job was the true extent of the awfulness of AEs animation tools. Just give me a graph editor PLEASE

More to come soon! (Hopefully)

Balda Baldessa 1a

When I was in japan last year, I managed to score a nice Nikon D5000 for pretty cheap then sneak it through customs without paying tax :shifty:

I've loved using it (just bought a delicious 35mm f1.8 lens), and its something I probably should have had for a while now, considering how interlinked film/photography is to my line of work.

With that in mind, I picked up a new(old) camera today;

It's a Balda Baldessa 1a, made in the late 50's. I picked it up and liked it right away. I love how unique it is, with a bottom key-turn to advance the film, the shutter button right next to the lens, and weird kinda bulging body.

I've found even though the D5000 is fully manual, it's still quite easy to be a bit lazy with settings. It's also pretty easy to not really consider your composition and just snap away. The Baldessa will force me to be a bit more considerate when it comes to photography (film ain't cheap!).

I'm really looking forward to tinkering around with it and hopefully taking some nice photos. It's become a bit of a mission of mine lately to start developing some more traditional skills (although I haven't picked up a pencil in a long time) alongside keeping up with the current crazy tech and methods that comes along with CG lighting.

Let's hope it pays off!

Reel Time

Rodnation Macers

Hello,

So here's something I recently worked on, a teaser-trailer for Modnation Racers.

For various reasons I can't place it in my reel (yet!), but what I can do is link you the youtube version:

EDIT: Nope, can't even do that. Just youtube 'modnation launch trailer' and you'll get it.

It was a pretty sweet gig, and I learnt alot from the other talented folk on the project.

coming up in the next episode: the aforementioned reel!
